Bullying

It Has to Stop
Children cannot be expected to develop and learn in a hostile environment. Students who live in fear of other kids or dread coming to school each day are not able to perform to their potential.
The effects of bullying on a child can be damaging, even tragic.
Bullying has long been a serious issue that parents and schools are now beginning to give the attention it deserves.
Here are some resources, research and practical tips to prevent and deal with bullying incidents in schools.
What can we do to Stop Bullying???
Family – Watch for signs of distress.
Be supportive and available, have an ‘open door policy’
Give the child’s words and feelings merit, don’t discount something they tell you just because YOU feel it isn’t important.
Teachers – Watch for signs of bullying in school
Make sure kids know you are there to talk to, victims as well as bystanders
Report all bullying
Stress the “Treat others the way you want to be treated” mind frame
Society – Speak up! Be that one person to stand up and say something
Don’t condone negative behavior and bullying
Defend the victim
All students and kids are being taught “If you see something, say something”
We need to take that one step further and arm them with the power to…. “Do Something”
We as parents and/or teachers are encouraging students to say something we must show them that we are willing to ‘do something’ with what they tell us.
